What a beautifully proportioned old home! So sad to see it come down. I trust that it was necessary for the long term future of this so-called incline district, and not some hair brained short term fix that doesn’t lead to real change. Seems like it’d make more sense if the darn incline were indeed returned.

Unfortunately the house was left in a state of total disrepair to the point of no return (especially from a landlord pocket book perspective as opposed to home owner). Would be nice to have the incline in place but not quite practical. The space where the original stood will be cleared (not the stone pilings) and a park of “notable design” to be incorporated in its place. The overlook that is there now will be connected and redesigned also… all for public use. At least thats the word on the street.

I believe that was the Reese Price Mansion, one of the most historic (and most ignored) homes in Price Hill. Reese put up the money for the incline in 1874. If we can’t turn this trend of demolition around there won’t be anything historic left in Price Hill. That would have made a great restaurant or inn for the new project. Damn shame.

Re: Reese Price house. I understood something similar as to the origin of the house and defer to your knowledge. I agree that this is a loss and I liked the architectural aspects of the house. However, money talks I suppose and some things must make way for the new. I have heard this: the developer (City Lights) does have an appreciation for the architectural significance the area has and would like to promote that as an aspect of desirability for living here. Hoping to draw those that would improve some of these fine old homes and occupy them as opposed to the numerous slum lords letting properties decline under the guise of fresh paint and a nail or two. Helpful to the cause would be to report these failing or problem properties/landlords to the City Building and Inspections Dept. via the City’s website: look for the “Request a Service” form/page.
